Freely Sharing Knowledge

One of the fascinating developments with consumer-generated media is the willingness its creators have to freely share their knowledge without any expectation of compensation. It's unclear if this trend with last or if it's just the thrill of having your own instant, free printing press that's driving it.

The bottom line is that there is a wealth of information out there on every subject. You can educate yourself and become an expert if you'll just take advantage of it. The difficulty is knowing where to find the best information, but with some experience, that becomes clearer and you learn to find the best stuff. Our opportunity to learn has been greatly expanded.

Pres. Bush in Chicago With Its Press

I'm watching a press conference with Pres. Bush, who is speaking to the local (and national) press in Chicago. He introduced the press conference by saying he wanted to see what a press conference outside Washington would be like and he said, "it would do the White House press corps some good." That statement was likely intended to send a message to the White House press corps that they no longer have the relevance they've had in the past. With modern communication technolgy, reporters in other cities can cover a press conference just as effectively as the Washington press. They also have the advantage of being more tied into the people of America and understand what issues are on their minds, unlike the White House press corps who over-politicize everything. I like the move.
